The Next Chapter Lab is a one year online membership designed to encourage women to make this next chapter of their lives an absolute page-turner.
To finally do the things that you have talked about doing but kept putting off.

The Next Chapter Lab is launching on September 16th!

The Next Chapter Lab will provide an online space for you to get advice, support and accountability as you bring your next chapter to life.

In my own life and in my clients’ lives, I notice that we get stuck for one or more of three reasons:

  1. We’re not sure what we want;

  2. We know what we want but we don’t know how to make it happen; or

  3. We can’t seem to find the time, energy or inclination to make the changes that we say we want to make (this has always been my personal favorite. I could have got a PhD in Procrastination but I never got round to it …

I have created The Next Chapter Lab to address each of these reasons.

That clock you hear is the sound of your own heart. Sink your teeth into this life, and don’t let go.
— Lin Manuel Miranda

The Next Chapter Lab will provide an online space for you to get advice, support and accountability as you breathe life into your bigger dreams and goals in the year ahead.

My genuine hope is that The Lab becomes an invaluable resource as you:

  • learn a framework to bring your next chapter to life;

  • take action to implement what you have learned; and

  • enjoy the benefits in your life right away.

Creating and living your most satisfying next chapter is something that can happen right now. You can make small - and yet significant - changes today that will immediately bring more joy, satisfaction and meaning to your every day life.

I know it’s tempting to keep waiting until you hear James Earl Jones’ voice tell you this “one thing” that you were born to do.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 51 years it’s that there are SO many versions of us that we could live. Each and every version could be magnificent. But all of those versions will be lost if we don’t at least try them on to see if they feel as good as we think that they will.

There’s a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.
— Martha Graham

The Next Chapter Lab membership includes:

Learning

  • Your Next Chapter Map online course - this is a 6 step process to provide a framework for you as you map out your next chapter. Every two weeks, you will receive an email with an audio recording to listen to and worksheets to complete for the next step in the process. Over a 3 month period, you will get to work through all 6 steps. If you would like to learn what the 6 steps are, click here.

  • A monthly group Q&A call - once per month, I will offer a group Q&A call to answer any questions you have about creating your next chapter.

  • An online workshop to help you plan your next 90 days based on the concept of The 12 Week Year which I love!!

  • A monthly habits workshop because we are what we do repeatedly. Our habits are either supporting or sabotaging the life we want to lead. The monthly lessons will be inspired by the book “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.

  • A monthly Book Club - each month I will recommend a book that I think will inspire you as you bring your next chapter to life.

In September, the book will be "Big Magic: Creative living beyond fear" by Liz Gilbert which I absolutely love. My copy is full of handwritten scribbles in the margins and lots of underlining.

In October, the book will be “Bird by Bird - some instructions on writing and life” by Anne Lamott. This is one of my all-time favorite books. I re-read it a couple of Summers ago on the beach while my son did a surf camp.

In November, the book will be “On Being Human” by Jen Pastiloff.

I will record a Podcast episode discussing the book of the month and will provide a worksheet for you to complete as you read the book.

  • Access to The Midlife Courage Project's library of recommendations for books, blogs, websites and podcasts that will inspire you to live more courageously in this next chapter;

action:

  • Bi-monthly "Get It Done" sessions — twice per month I will offer online co-working sessions where we’ll meet online via Zoom so you can connect from wherever you are in the world. We will set our intentions for what we plan to work on during the next 3 hours and I will remain available throughout the 3 hour session to answer any questions you have or to help you overcome any obstacles you’re facing. You might use the time to work on your resume or to create a draft business plan or to work on the next chapter of your book or to work on your website or to plan the logistics for creating an exhibition of your photography. It will be a time for you to focus and tackle the projects that tend to get lost in the chaos of everyday life.

  • Three accountability email check-ins each week — you will receive an email on Sunday afternoon to help you plan for the week ahead, a mid-week check-in email on Wednesday to cheer you on and keep you focused and a check-in email on Friday to help you track your progress during the past week and to see the changes you can make in the week ahead to keep you on track toward reaching your project goals.

  • A private online group to provide additional accountability and access to a group of women who are also creating their next chapters. I’m excited to see the friendships that will form and the real-life connections that will be made!

benefits:

  • 10% discount on 1:1 coaching programs or sessions with me. The first 50 members of the Lab will get a discount of 20% on 1:1 coaching programs or sessions with me; and

  • 20% discount on courses and workshops offered by The Midlife Courage Project.

In the brilliant book, Roadmap: The Get-It-Together Guide for Figuring Out What to Do with Your Life, the authors talk about looking for the “Next You”:

You’ve probably heard of (or been part of) a beta test. The beta version of software is typically a limited release in order to test the effectiveness of the product, and its content and format will evolve as the developers discard what doesn’t work about it and strengthen what does. A beta test is an iteration of something that is subject to continued improvement.

This approach matches the way we as people should change over time. Living in Beta means you are continually building better versions of yourself. It means that the current “you” is just a single iteration of what you can be, and the next “you” that you build isn’t a final either - it’s just one more step forward.
— Roadmap, Chapter 5

So that is what we will be doing in The Next Chapter Lab - “Living in Beta” as we continually build beta/better versions of ourselves. That isn’t to say that the “you” you are today is worse in any way. It’s just to say that you are constantly evolving and the feelings of stress, anxiety and frustration tend to appear most strongly when you are fighting the urge to evolve into the next version of you.

As a woman in my 50’s I’m ready to live as the truly multi-faceted person that I am.

When we embrace all the experiences that have brought us to this point in our lives and choose the thread that is most meaningful to us, we can continue that thread into this next chapter. We can build upon everything we’ve done and experienced and learned this far and take it to the next level.

We can start to do that right now. Not at some point in the future when the time is “right”. That point most likely will never arrive. So grab today with both hands. Choose to make this next chapter an absolute page-turner.

If you would like to have me in your corner to cheer you on and to remind you of how absolutely brilliant you are, please join me in the Summer Session of The Next Chapter Lab.

I would love to take this courage-fueled journey with you this Summer!

If you want to start your own business, this could be the Summer when you set time aside to do some business planning.  Even in 5 or 15 minute segments, you could get SO much done.

You could decide on your business name.
You could buy your domain name.
You could make a phone call to check on licenses or insurances you would need.
You could reach out to your bank to get information on their business checking accounts.
You could reach out to 5 friends and ask for their advice and perspective on the services or products or classes you are planning to offer.
You could start to talk about your new business when you are at barbecues or hanging with friends and family at the beach.
You can start to breath life into this business vision that you have.

There are small but significant steps you can take this Summer whether it’s starting your own business, changing your career, writing a book or starting a travel or food blog.

Now that I’m 51, I’m truly understanding how precious each and every month is and I don’t want to waste any more time in a blur of Netflix and taking care of other people’s needs ahead of my own.

This Summer, I’m going to stay focused on being in action towards my dreams rather than falling into inaction.
